The origin of the State Forces goes back to long before the Indian Army came into existence. It is surprising that no endeavour has been made so far either by the States, the Government of India or historians to write a historical account of the Indian State forces. A history, full of heroism and deeds of valour that Hindustan is ever proud of. During the last War, for example, the Jodhpur State Army was expanded to more than four times its peacetime strength, and several of its units served overseas alongside units of the British and Indian Armies. This book achieves in very complete fashion what its author set out to do and that is to present the heritage and deeds of the Indian State Forces which have been written in the annals of the country in letters of blood and gold.
