We assume that you have some basic knowledge of web technologies. You should be comfortable with writing HTML, have experience with writing programs in any of the many scripting or programming languages, and have some understanding on how a web-based distributed information system works. We will assume also that you have at least conceptual familiarity with databases, although a good knowledge of these systems will surely make it easier to comprehend some of the material in the book (in particular the examples in the databases and the shopping cart application chapters).
