The present publication is meant to be a general survey of works of art preserved at inhabited centres and towns which have not the status of Capoluogo di Provincia (principal town of a Province). Lists of these art treasures, many of which are world-famous, testify to an artistic wealth which only Italy can offer. Even the present simple dry notes have provided enough material to cram tightly three booklets devoted respectively to Northern Italy, Central Italy, Southern Italy and the Islands, and even thus it cannot be guaranteed that no omissions have been made.
