THE French cavalry had had experience with armoured cars, which, in small numbers, had been allotted to

horsed cavalry formations since 1914, but there was no marked enthusiasm for this new weapon. evertheless, after World War I a perfunctory interest was shown in the development of a tracked armoured vehicle, which, in having a cross-country mobility for the traditional cavalry rdle of reconnaissance and security, would provide a complement to the road-bound armoured car.
