Of all the many German seaplanes built during WWI the products of Friedrichshafen were the most numerous and those best liked and trusted by the steadfast Marinefliegers of the Kaiser's navy. The FF 33 series was developed in 1915 and was destined to see out the war via a large number of different versions of which the FF 33E, subject of this DATAFILE, was the first to enter series production and ultimately operational service. The Friedrichshafen seaplanes were equal to the many and varied tasks they were called upon to perform and several took part in some notable exploits. Amongst these the best known was 841 HFT Wolfchen, shipped aboard SMS Wolf which participated in an event-packed voyage which lasted over 14 months. Deservedly, Wolfchen's story forms a major element of this unique DATAFILE, the first ever monograph describing these workmanlike classic seaplanes of WWI.
