One of many myths that WWI aviation history has provided is that Fokker's Eindeckers were simply copies of the successful pre-war Morane-Saulnier monoplanes. In fact the only copies of these French designs were made by Pfalz who entered a licencing agreement in 1914 to build both the Type L and H. As author Peter M Grosz shows, the resultant Pfalz E-Types were greatly inferior to their Fokker contemporaries and were never to enjoy the popularity with their pilots, nor the ranging Frontline service that the Schwerin fighters

achieved. On the world's war-torn stage the various Pfalz E-Type monoplanes were minor players and did little for the Rhine-based manufacturer's reputation as Fokker designs gained ascendancy. Unpopular with pilots of the few units to which the types were assigned, the Pfalz monoplanes are nevertheless favourite subjects for modellers and here at last is the most complete coverage of these fighters yet published with scale plans of E.I, E.II, E.IV and E.V versions.
