The T-72 is the most widely produced main battle tank in the world today, and is being manufactured in 5 countries in a remarkable number of variants. In view of the bad reputation that the T-72 had received in the 1991 Gulf War and in Chechnya, the Russian plant renamed the newest versions of the T-72 as the T-90.
