I work with Photoshop every day. I have since version 3. That is Photoshop 3, not CS3. That was when I would work on a Mac one day, a Windows machine another, and follow it up with a Unix or Irix machine. (Yes-I worked on Photoshop on Silicon Graphics workstations.) 80, Photoshop feels like that old friend I grew up with, that we have lived each other’s secrets and developed and matured together. It feels exceptionally so now that Photoshop has integrated some video and three-dimensional (3D) capabilities. As the understanding friend who has already experienced 3D and Motion Graphics, I am patient while Photoshop learns the ropes and slowly improves on these capabilities. Already, PS CC (Photoshop CC) is so much better in that realm than when it first came out with 3D capabilities. Like moving to a new area and trying to join people who grew up together, coming into Photoshop now can be daunting. There are so many ways to do the same thing, so many ways to obtain similar results, and all the options can be overwhelming. Even with experienced artists, I have never been on a project for which at least one person did not say, “Huh, I never knew that,” about some Photoshop feature. So, the question is, what information should I cover and how much? Do I assume you already know Photoshop? If so, then what parts are you going to know? I hope I struck a balance in this book so you will find clear instruction no matter what your level and yet will find something that makes you say, “Huh, I never knew that.” I have to admit, there are some tutorials that did not make it into this book.
