The problems treated here are inspired from fusion physics. The results are not, however, directly applicable to a tokamak (say). Given the enormous complexity of the underlying nonlinear problems, I decided to study only the simplest possible situation. I thus consider throughout a fully ionized plasma with a single species of singly-charged ions, in the presence of a homogeneous and stationary magnetic field (which could be subject to fluctuations): this defines the shearless slab geometry. This allowed me to concentrate on the essence of the molecular - or stochastic - mechanisms producing transport in a turbulent plasma. The methods used are those of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and of its offspring, kinetic theory. In the second part of the book, they are combined with the methods of stochastic (Langevin) equations and random walk theory. The application of these basic building stones to fusion theory require a generalization involving the action of an inhomogeneous and curved (toroidal) magnetic field.
